According to CDC, the number of people with diabetes has more than tripled in the last couple of decades, reaching around 30 million in 2015. There are 1.5 million Americans diagnosed with new cases of diabetes every year. The economic cost of diabetes increases each year. In 2017, the total costs of diagnosed diabetes in the United States was $327 billion, $237 billion was for direct medical costs, and $90 billion in estimated reduced productivity.

In 2015, About 84 million Americans age 18 and older had prediabetes, due to these alarming numbers, it is important to increase the efforts with regards to early detection in prediabetic patients. Early detection and working with the patient can delay the onset or prevent type 2 diabetes and reduce health care cost. The CDC provides programs and incentives in which implements a high-impact prevention approach to reducing new diabetes cases via the combinations of various interventions and prevention strategies directed towards the US populations that are most affected by, or at greatest risk for, diabetes.
