How We Create Health Care Leaders

Making inter-professional education the norm

We provide a full range of health sciences training—medicine, nursing, dentistry, allied health and pharmacy—giving our students a dynamic learning experience as part of an integrated health care delivery team. Our students apply these skills in real world settings, from providing medication management in local refugee centers to helping to break the genetic code for cancer treatment.

Merging local health care with global impact

Through opportunities like teaching medication management to the burgeoning immigrant population in Buffalo, medical mission trips throughout the Caribbean and Central America, and our extensive experiential education program comprising more than 750 national and international training sites supported by 1,200 preceptors, our students gain the knowledge, cultural competence and leadership skills necessary to influence public health on a global level.

A passion for critical research

We have a top 30 research ranking by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) for highly competitive National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant support. This strong foundation fosters groundbreaking discoveries that are paving the way to the eradication of antibiotic-resistant E. coli and to effective cancer treatment without chemotherapy—two of many vital health care goals on our horizon.

Pushing the boundaries of pharmaceutical education

Since our inception in 1886, we have played an instrumental role in merging pharmacy practice with the rigors of clinical and bench research. From being one of the first schools in the nation to require pharmacogenomics to developing one of the nation’s first HIV antiviral treatment certification programs, we have proven ourselves again and again to be trailblazers in the field.

Internationally renowned faculty who care

Our faculty are American Association for the Advancement of Science fellows, highly cited researchers and, most important, committed teachers who are eager to share their scientific and clinical expertise with their students—giving them a rock-solid academic foundation and the career advantage they need.
