Why Attend

Review of recent literature and guidelines indicates pediatric acute pain management continues to rely on opioid prescribing practices that may not fully reflect current best practices. Pharmacists should understand and apply the American Academy of Pediatrics guideline recommendations to pediatric acute pain scenarios, recognize safe dosing strategies, identify when and how to integrate nonopioid therapies, and effectively communicate storage and disposal practices. This knowledge can enhance patient safety, reduce opioid misuse, and align pharmacy practice with established guidelines.

Learning Objectives

    1. Explain the general principles of pediatric pain management.

    2. Describe evidence-based recommendations for opioid prescribing in pediatric acute pain.

    3. Summarize safety measures and caregiver education strategies for opioid use.
