Pharmacy Law is a newsletter from the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPPS) covering pharmacy practice laws in New York State.
The newsletter was founded and created in 1993 by the late Robert M. Cooper, PharmD, a longtime UB faculty member and member of the New York State Board of Pharmacy. Cooper's vision was simple: to bring current, concise and accurate pharmacy law information directly to practicing pharmacists.
Karl Williams, JD, MBA, BS ’80
That tradition was carried forward by Karl Fiebelkorn, BS, RPh, MBA, who served as the school's authority on pharmacy law for more than 25 years. During his tenure, Fiebelkorn contributed more than 85 law updates to the newsletter, helping thousands of PharmD students prepare for the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination (MPJE) while keeping practicing pharmacists across New York informed and up to date. He retired in 2023.
Pharmacy Law Newsletter is now led by Karl Williams, JD, MBA, BS '80, clinical professor and director of professional affairs at SPPS. Williams teaches the school's curriculum in pharmacy ethics, law and regulation with a focus on practice readiness and MPJE preparation. As director of legislative advocacy, he tracks policy proposals and advances changes that better align pharmacy practice with the expertise developed at SPPS — making the newsletter a natural extension of that work.
