Cashman, president of the SASP University at Buffalo chapter, approached the NASP's Executive Director, Sheila Arquette (BS '89), with a proposal to form a committee that would act as a liaison between NASP and the officers of all individual SASP student chapters. The committee will aim to enhance accessibility, communication, and engagement and provide an additional student leadership opportunity and experience.

"The Executive Committee was so impressed, they approved Nick's proposal and invited him to serve as the first student president," Arquette says.

Cashman will serve as NASP-SASP National Executive Committee student president through the 2021 academic year.

Promoting Student Engagement in Specialty Pharmacy

Cashman founded the first SASP chapter in the U.S. in 2018 along with two other UB PharmD/MBA students—Lydia Deinhart and Andrey Polukhin. Their goal was to invest in the future of specialty pharmacy practice by promoting student engagement through education, professional development, and networking with members and affiliated partners of NASP.

Cashman's novel ideas for the NASP-SASP National Executive Committee include starter kits for each new student chapter, distribution and review of a student chapter report card at the end of each academic year, and bi-annual student leader meetings.

"I am honored to have been selected to serve my student colleagues across the country," Cashman says. "The UB School of Pharmacy has provided a tremendous amount of support, acting as a catalyst for many of the successes that the local chapter has achieved. I am extremely excited to utilize this platform to continue to spread specialty pharmacy education across the country.”
