Amy Shaver, MPH ’17, PharmD ’18, honored with United States Public Health Service Excellence in Public Health Pharmacy Award

With the increase in public health issues, including obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease, pharmacy students play an important role in finding innovative ways to address these challenges.  This prestigious award recognizes pharmacy students who have made significant contributions to public health by promoting wellness and healthy communities. Specifically, students are evaluated on their contributions towards voluntary health related services, an emerging public health issue, or contributions that advance the goals of Health People 2020 or the National Prevention Strategy.

Shaver was chosen “for her continued dedication and contributions to the people of Erie County, New York, primarily through diabetes and antibiotic overuse awareness events and materials.”

Amy will be receive her award at the 2018 UB School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Awards Ceremony on April 11, and will also be recognized in the Spring 2018 USPHS University Point of Contact Newsletter.

The United States Public Health Service is led by the Surgeon General and is made up of more than 6,700 Commissioned Corps officers that are driven by a passion to serve the underserved and work on the front lines of public health—fighting disease, conducting research and caring for patients in underserved communities. The Pharmacist Professional Advisory Committee provides advice and consultation to the Surgeon General on issues related to both the professional practice of pharmacy, and the personnel activities of Civil Service and Commissioned Corps pharmacists.
