Robert Bies, PharmD, PhD, associate professor, pharmaceutical sciences, has been named a 2020 fellow of the International Society for Pharmacometrics (ISoP).
The fellowship is given in recognition of outstanding professional and scientific contributions to the global pharmacometrics community and sustained volunteer service to ISoP.
Bies was a board member of ISOP from 2014 to 2017. He served as a founding member of the Statistics and Pharmacometrics Interest Group and continues to work as part of the Education Committee at ISoP. He was section chair for the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) Clinical Pharmacology and Translational Research (CPTR) Pharmacometrics Focus Group, as well the CPTR Abstract Screening Chair. He is a member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) and the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT).
He is currently North American and executive editor for the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology and on the editorial boards of the Journal of Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics, Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics: Pharmacometrics and Systems Pharmacology and Biopharmaceutics and Drug Disposition.
His research focuses on the application of pharmacometric approaches in psychiatry, oncology, neurology and cardiovascular disease and novel methods development, including machine learning approaches to model selection and optimization methods for parameter optimization in dynamic systems.
Bies is also a faculty member at the University at Buffalo Institute for Computational and Data Sciences and a research scientist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, University of Toronto.
