Joseph P. Balthasar, BS ’91, PhD ’96, has received an Entrepreneur Award from the University at Buffalo (UB) in recognition of his entrepreneurial leadership and groundbreaking work in drug discovery and development.

The University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (UB SPPS) continues to attract and support some of the nation’s most promising pharmaceutical scientists and clinical researchers. This year’s incoming PhD students in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Division of Clinical and Translational Therapeutics have earned top university honors and competitive national fellowships, underscoring UB’s reputation as a leader in drug discovery, development, biotherapeutics, translational science and novel delivery systems.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The University at Buffalo (UB) School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPPS) welcomed incoming students and celebrated the start of the fall 2025 semester with a series of Welcome Week events, including a multi-day orientation, a school-wide ice cream social and the White Coat Ceremony for first-year PharmD students.

Thomas Nguyen, PharmD/MS ’23 and PhD student in the University at Buffalo (UB) Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, has received a Clinical Research Loan Repayment Program (LRP) Award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Brent Boleslav, MS, a PhD student in the University at Buffalo (UB) Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, has been named one of the first-ever recipients of the new American College of Clinical Pharmacology (ACCP) Grant Program.
