Why Attend

Patient outcomes are improved when we develop and support a diverse healthcare workforce. Statistics suggest an increasing presence of LGBTQIA+ students enrolling in colleges and schools of pharmacy, and we should be ready to help them find success.

This interactive, educational session will share practical strategies for preceptors and clinical sites to protect and support LGBTQIA+ students during clinical rotations. Real-world examples and resources will be highlighted in order to demonstrate that many of these strategies can be implemented with little to no resources.

Learning Objectives

  1. Define aspects of gender identity and sexual orientation across the LGBTQIA+ spectrum using appropriate terminology.
  2. Identify challenges that LGBTQIA+ pharmacy students may encounter on IPPE and APPE rotations.
  3. List strategies to support academic and non-academic well-being of LGBTQIA+ pharmacy students during rotations.
