Target Audience

This program is intended for pharmacists in all practice settings and satisfies the  requirement for training to dispense self-administered hormonal contraceptives pursuant to the New York State standing order.

Why Attend

The New York Birth Control Access Act was signed into law on May 2, 2023 and authorizes pharmacists to “Execute a non-patient specific order for the dispensing of self-administered contraceptives prescribed or ordered by the commissioner of health, a physician licensed in this state, or a nurse practitioner certified in this state." 

Registered pharmacists in good standing completing appropriate training programs deemed appropriate by the New York State Education Department may utilize the standing order to dispense self-administered hormonal contraceptives to patients. This continuing education activity will satisfy this requirement.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe the phases of the menstrual cycle and the function of different hormones during each phase.
  2. Discuss the available contraceptives and contraceptive devices, including pharmacology and mechanisms of actions for the various products.
  3. Identify the precautions and contraindications to the use of hormonal contraceptives.
  4. Explain the various techniques required to counsel and screen patients for the dispensing of self-administered hormonal contraceptives pursuant to the New York State standing order.

Requirements for Obtaining Continuing Education Credit

Learners must be present for 70% or more of the webinar. Please ensure your screen name accurately identifies you and each learner is logged into the webinar individually to facilitate attendance tracking. The activity evaluation, which includes learning assessment questions, is a requirement for CPE credit to be awarded. There is no minimum passing score required for the learning assessment questions. It is strongly encouraged that all learners participate in the active learning components of the program to gain the full benefit of the educational activity.

The Office of Continuing Pharmacy Education reserves the right to cancel live continuing education activities for any reason, including low registration. Registered attendees will be notified in advance with the option to receive a refund or account credit.

Refunds: 

For live webinar activities, no requests for refunds will be honored after educational materials have been disseminated to registered attendees (typically 24 hours prior to the program start).
