Kapoor Hall Printer Mapping Instructions

Disclaimer

The following steps have been provided to enable printing from personal computers on the "UB_Secure" wireless network to the public printers in Kapoor Hall rooms 260, 340 and 440. The SPPS IT staff is only responsible for the function of school owned equipment. No support will be provided if you cannot connect your personal computer to these printers. Please pick up your printer outputs in a timely manner; we are not responsible for lost print jobs.

Windows 7/8.1/10

  1. Make sure your computer is connected to the "UB_Secure" wireless network. Printing is not available from the "UB_Wireless" network. More information regarding the wireless network can be found here: http://www.buffalo.edu/ubit/service-guides/connecting/wifi.html
  2. Click the Microsoft Windows Start button in the lower left corner of your screen.
  3. Type one of the following available printers:
    \\Klonopin.pharm.buffalo.edu\HP-K440
    \\Klonopin.pharm.buffalo.edu\HP-K340
    \\Klonopin.pharm.buffalo.edu\HP-K260
  4. Log in using your UBITName prefixed with AD\ (for example, AD\UBITName) and then enter your UBIT password.

Important: Printing to any public printer in Kapoor Hall will count against your student print quota for the semester. To check your available print quota balance, please log into any available student lab workstation in Kapoor 268 or Kapoor 345 and click the Print Manager icon located next to the clock in the Windows system tray.

Mac OS

  1. Make sure your computer is connected to the "UB_Secure" wireless network. Printing is not available from the "UB_Wireless" network. More information regarding the wireless network can be found here: http://www.buffalo.edu/ubit/service-guides/connecting/wifi.html
  2. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
  3. Choose Print & Fax from the View menu.
  4. Click the + button to add a printer.
  5. Press the Control key while clicking the "Default" icon (or any other icon on the toolbar), then choose Customize Toolbar from the contextual menu that appears.
  6. Drag the Advanced (gear) icon to the toolbar.
  7. Click Done.
  8. Click the Advanced icon that was added to the toolbar.
  9. Choose "Windows printer via spoolss" from the Type pop-up menu.
  10. In the URL field, type one of the following available public printers:
    smb://Klonopin.pharm.buffalo.edu:139/HP-K440
    smb://Klonopin.pharm.buffalo.edu:139/HP-K340
    smb://Klonopin.pharm.buffalo.edu:139/HP-K260
  11. In the Name field, type the name you would like to use for this printer in Mac OS X.
  12. In the use field, select "Generic PCL Printer".
  13. Click Add.
  14. If prompted, select the option for "Duplexer".
  15. The first time you printer, you will be prompted for a username and password. Enter your UBIT name as AD\ubitnamehere Make sure you check the options for "Registered User" and "Remember this password in my keychain".

Important: Remember that printing to any public printer in Kapoor Hall will count against your student print quota for the semester. To check your available print balance, please log into any student lab workstation in 268 or 345 and click the Print Manager icon located next to the clock in the Windows system tray.
