Olivia Denny, a 2022 PharmD candidate at the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, has been selected as a 2021 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Walmart Scholar.
The AACP Walmart Scholars Program provides opportunities to meet a network of motivated colleagues who have shared interests in academia and offers an environment for professional development, personal and professional reflection, relationship building, and scholarly activities, while also helping to offset some of the financial expenses of the fourth year of pharmacy school.
Olivia is thankful for the leadership, service and research experience she has gotten at UB. Those skills, coupled with an inspiring mentor, helped her achieve this honor.
“UB has provided me every opportunity to fulfill my goals and aspirations as a pharmacy student,” she says. “I met my mentor for the Walmart Scholars Program, Dr. Maya Chilbert, at a school networking event, and she has supported my endeavors while challenging me to continue evolving as a student pharmacist.”
Denny received her BS in microbiology in 2018 from the University of Rochester. She is a member of the Rho Chi Honor Society and leads the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) Operation Heart patient care project for UB, which was selected as Region 1 winner in both 2019 and 2020 for its cardiac health outreach initiatives. Denny was also president of the UB chapter of the Pharmacists Society of the State of New York (SPSSNY) for the 2020-2021 academic year.
