The PharmD Class of 2022 raised over $2,000 for the YWCA of the Niagara Frontier to support those afflicted by domestic violence and sexual abuse at the annual Halfway Charity Gala.
The event took place on Feb. 8 at Pearl Street Grill and Brewery in downtown Buffalo.
The class chose the YWCA of the Niagara Frontier as the event's beneficiary. The organization is dedicated to providing information and support to women and children who have suffered or are currently suffering from domestic violence and sexual abuse. Their educational and self-sufficiency services range from giving housing alternatives to children and young adults to maintaining a 24-hour domestic violence hotline.
"This (organization) really resonated with us, and we are honored to be able to make a contribution to their effort on behalf of the Class of 2022 and the School of Pharmacy," said Ali Zahid, class president.
Raffle items came from a variety of donors, including The Buffalo News, Independent Health, BAC for Women, Burning Buffalo Bar and Grill, and even the Boston Bruins.
