Nicole Paolini Albanese to receive 2018 Teaching Innovation Award

Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice Nicole Paolini Albanese has been selected to receive a University at Buffalo 2018 Award for Teaching Innovation.

The UB Teaching Innovation Award recognizes faculty members who have contributed significantly to engaging students with new methods and approaches to teaching that have enhanced student-learning outcomes.

“Her ability to oversee and lead the PharmD curriculum has allowed our school to remain a leader amongst our peers, providing a robust and highly engaging educational experience for our students and creating a responsive mentoring environment for both junior and senior faculty,” says James M. O’Donnell, PhD, dean.

Albanese is an educational leader and has significantly helped guide the school’s curriculum and educational outreach through novel and innovative pedagogical approaches, most notably Team-Based Learning and Blended Learning. Her curricular responsibilities include endocrinology, pharmaceutical care and self-care, and she has been chair of the school’s curriculum committee since 2013. She currently serves as Program Director for the UB-Buffalo Medical Group PGY2 Ambulatory Care Residency Program. She is a Certified Diabetes Educator and a Board-Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist.

Albanese is an active member of the profession and an accomplished lecturer speaking on topics such as diabetes, obesity and immunizations. Her scholarly work, with focus on educational outcomes, has resulted in 15 publications, nine books/chapters, 13 abstracts and 16 poster presentations at national meetings.

She has been recognized for her teaching effectiveness through a number of awards, including WNY Residency Preceptor of the Year (2013 and 2018) and Teacher of the Year (2009 and 2014). Her national leadership in pharmacy education is also remarkable. Since 2007, she has been a faculty leader with the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy; initially as an Educational Affairs Subcommittee faculty delegate, then in 2015 progressing to chair, Faculty Affairs Committee, Policy and Programming Workgroup. She is also an active member national of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), and from 2006-2014, was the school’s faculty liaison for the APhA Academy of Student Pharmacists.

Nicole Paolini Albanese will be recognized at the fall 2018 Celebration of Faculty and Staff Excellence.
