BUFFALO, N.Y. – During 2024 Welcome Week, the University at Buffalo (UB) School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPPS) welcomed incoming students with a series of events including a multi-day orientation program, White Coat Ceremony for first-year PharmD students and our annual school-wide picnic.

The University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences’ (UB SPPS) Drug Discovery, Development and Evaluation (DDDE) Hub, a leading research engine in the fields of pharmaceutical research and translational sciences, is proud to announce the following strategic news hires who will launch and lead critical components of the DDDE Hub. These renowned faculty hires signify the university’s and the school’s commitment to drug discovery, development and the evaluative sciences as well as its dedication to fostering a culture of innovation and research excellence.

The University of Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (UB SPPS) welcomed Anna Schwendeman, PhD, H.W. Vahlteich Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences College of Pharmacy, University of Michigan as our 2024 David Chu Lecturer on April 11.

Jason Sprowl, PhD, assistant professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, is the recipient of a National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER award, the foundation’s most prestigious honor for early-career faculty. He is the only non-engineering faculty member to receive this in 2024 at UB.

A special edition of the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences was recently dedicated to William Jusko, PhD, SUNY Distinguished Professor, pharmaceutical sciences. The edition honors and recognizes his long-term contributions to the advancement of the pharmaceutical sciences, including his work in the evolution of PK-PD modeling, and his 40-year leadership of significant advances in theoretical and applied pharmacometrics. These advances have provided a foundational framework for the study and understanding of drug exposure-response relationships.
