William J. Jusko, PhD, SUNY Distinguished Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, is the 2018 recipient of the Oscar B. Hunter Career Award in Therapeutics from the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics.
Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences Juliane Nguyen, PharmD, PhD, has received a Bruce Holm Memorial Catalyst Fund award for $33,000 in support of her project titled “EXO-Codes: A highly Efficient Platform for Loading Exosomes with Chemical and Biological Agents.”
Researchers in New York have investigated the mechanism of action of extracellular vesicles, also called exosomes, secreted by mesenchymal stem cells (MSC). Their research highlights that MSC-derived exosomes involved in cardiac regeneration act by an increase in angiogenesis, an anti-apoptotic effect on cardiomyocytes, cell proliferation, and a decrease of collagen production by cardiac fibroblasts.
Dhaval K. Shah, PhD '10, has joined the Science Advisory Board at Applied BioMath, an industry-leader in applying mechanistic modeling, simulation, and analysis to drug research and development.
