Two University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences professional student organizations partnered to host two guest alumni speakers for the fall semester.
The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) and the Student Association of Specialty Pharmacy (SASP) welcomed Kevin Lavery (PharmD/MBA ’19) and Alex Principino (PharmD/MPH ’18) back to campus as part of their Annual Speaker Series.
Lavery is currently a clinical pharmacist at Pharmacy Benefit Dimensions in Buffalo, N.Y. His presentation provided students with a foundation for understanding the interactions between key players in the healthcare industry and how pharmacy benefit managers function at the center of these interactions.
Principino spoke with students about working as a clinical pharmacist at BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York, as well as his experiences as a PGY-1 managed care resident there.
The AMCP student chapter at UB facilitates the education, development and promotion of the principles and practices of managed care pharmacy.
The SASP student chapter at UB strives to educate students about career paths within the field of specialty pharmacy and increase student awareness of current issues and topics of interest in the specialty pharmacy field through guest speakers and student engagement projects.
