UB faculty members Charles Lindsey and Carrie Hoefer have been named SUNY Online Teaching Ambassadors for 2024.

Lindsey and Hoefer, who were nominated by UB’s Educational Design Collaborative, are among numerous SUNY faculty members who are being honored as Online Teaching Ambassadors as part of the SUNY Online Summit being held Feb. 28-29.

Designation as a SUNY Online Teaching Ambassador recognizes SUNY faculty members who are “exemplary online educators who are enthusiastic and effective in online teaching, and who can be positive and strong advocates for online teaching in our SUNY community.”

Charles Lindsey

Lindsey, associate professor of marketing in the School of Management, teaches online, as well as in-person courses — he has taught both Statistical Analytics and Marketing Management online.

He says his favorite pedagogical format for online courses is to utilize stair-step topical “circuits,” featuring original content videos/readings, a 5-minute “pulse” quiz and an application activity.

As faculty director of UB’s Professional MBA Program since 2017, Lindsey helped convert the program to a hybrid-delivery format — and taught the inaugural hybrid course. More recently, he helped launch UB’s first fully online MBA program — teaching the inaugural course in that program as well.

Carrie Hoefer.

Carrie Hoefer

Hoefer, director of online programs and assistant dean for undergraduate programs in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, was recruited to UB in 2023 to develop online programs in the pharmacy school. She previously had launched Manchester University’s first master’s program in pharmacogenomics, both on campus and online, as well as an online MS program in pharmacogenomics and personalized health care at the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy at the University of Cincinnati.

At UB, Hoefer leads development, implementation, marketing and evaluation of online BS and MS degree programs with strategic online course development and course content. She also assists faculty members in developing online curriculum, along with school-wide assessment efforts to evaluate online program outcomes and growth.

The School of Pharmacy is set to launch its first online program this coming fall.
