BUFFALO, N.Y.—The University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPPS) Department of Pharmacy Practice has appointed Calvin Meaney, PharmD ’11, as Vice-Chair for Research, and Nicholas Fusco, PharmD ’10, as Vice-Chair for Education, Practice and Service.
As Vice-Chair for Research, Meaney will provide strategic leadership and advisement to the department chair in the area of research and scholarship.
Meaney was appointed Clinical Assistant Professor in 2014 and promoted to the rank of Clinical Associate Professor in 2019. He has been the recipient of several school-based awards, including the Pharmacy Practice Research Award in 2016, the Rho Chi Teaching Excellence award in 2015 and 2019, and the SPPS Teacher of the Year Award in 2018.
He has published 25 peer-reviewed abstracts, 20 peer-reviewed manuscripts and four book chapters. He also received a New Investigator Award from the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) in 2017.
Meaney currently co-chairs the SPPS Clinical Research Program, where he advances pharmacy student engagement in research, and serves on the UB Institutional Review Board. He is also chair of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) Nephrology Practice and Research Network.
“Dr. Meaney is a gifted academician who is highly respected by both clinical and tenure/tenure-track faculty,” says William Prescott, chair and clinical professor, pharmacy practice. “He has built strong collaborations within and across departments, and has committed himself to training the next generation of researchers.”
As Vice-Chair for Education, Practice and Service, Fusco will provide strategic leadership and advisement to the department chair in the areas of education, clinical practice and service, and will advance the department’s Scholarship of Teaching and Learning initiatives.
Fusco began his tenure at SPPS in 2013 as Clinical Assistant Professor, and was promoted to Clinical Associate Professor in 2018. He currently holds two leadership roles at the school: Director of Interprofessional Education (2019-present) and Assistant Director of Experiential Education (2020-present).
On the national level, he presently serves as chair of the AACP Pediatric Pharmacy Special Interest Group, and chair of the ACCP Pediatric Practice and Research Network.
Fusco received the SPPS Teacher of the Year award in 2017, the Rho Chi Teaching Excellence Award in 2018, and the AACP Emerging Teaching Scholar Award in 2020. He has published seven educational research articles in the past five years.
