Morris' research focuses on monocarboxylate transporters, important in L-lactate transport, as well as in the disposition of monocarboxylate drugs. Her current research is funded through the National Institutes of Drug Abuse and examines the toxicokinetics and toxicodynamics of the drug of abuse gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) in order to identify treatment strategies for overdoses of GHB.

Marilyn Morris has been a faculty member at the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences since 1991.
