"You will have the training, knowledge and ability to help heal people who have serious illnesses. This duty is a privilege and an honor."

I am a Class of 1979 graduate of UB’s prestigious PharmD program.

A few years ago I was where you are now, wondering what pharmacy school was really going to be like. There is a lot to look forward to and, based on my personal experience, here are three distinctive aspects of UB’s program that have allowed me to be happy at UB and successful as an alumnus:

  1. Put your heart into it!
It may sound trite, but you"ll only get out of the program what you invest into it. This is what my classmates were were told on our first day. Going the extra mile always pay off. If you don't know something, find a way to figure it out. Learning how to learn is a gift that pays extra over the course of your career. It will pay dividends in more ways than you ever will expect.
  2. Learn to partner
You will work with different people with varied styles and skill-sets. Use these opportunities to learn how to deliver the knowledge you are gaining. It's not just about classwork. We have an opportunity to help improve the lives of others. You will have the training, knowledge and ability to help heal people who have serious illnesses. This duty is a privilege and an honor.
  3. Begin your continuing education early
Make a habit of reading journals and attending meetings. Your education is asset which needs nurturing. Information is evolving very quickly. Don't overlook the opportunity to learn from patients. They will teach you a lot more than you expect if you just take the time to listen.
