Professional Summary:

Primary research interests are in the fields of drug information and managed care pharmacy. Currently, Dr. Catanzaro staffs the UB SPPS Drug Information Response Center which supports the NY State Medicaid Prescriber Education Program. She is also continuing to work in collaboration with other UB SPPS faculty on additional projects for the NY State Department of Health (DOH). These projects involve clinical reviews and literature evaluation as well as drug utilization review (DUR) research for the NY State Medicaid DUR Program.

Students interested in this type of research will have the opportunity to develop their literature retrieval and evaluation skills and professional writing skills. The DUR research component provides the opportunity to learn how to analyze insurance claims databases to identify prescribing patterns and opportunities for optimizing appropriate medication use. Participation in these projects may also lead to the opportunity for the student to become a published author.
