Mary Kruszynski, residency program coordinator in the Department of Pharmacy Practice, is the recipient of the 2019 Unsung Hero Award for the University at Buffalo Employee Campaign for the Community. The award recognizes her vital and significant work behind the scenes.

“She has taken it upon herself to go above and beyond just being a liaison.”

Kruszynski has been a liaison for the UB Employee Campaign for the Community, representing the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, for the last four years. “She has taken it upon herself to go above and beyond just being a liaison…and has helped both myself and the other Steering Committee members with anything that we need,” says Pamela Coniglio, interprofessional education coordinator.

Kruszynski was previously recognized in 2017 for sharing her personal story to help promote the campaign’s impact. She is incredibly open about how her family has been affected by her mother’s Alzheimer’s disease and how the Alzheimer’s Association, one of the organizations the United Way supports, has helped her. “They have given us so many resources that I couldn’t imagine now going through this without them,” Kruszynski says. Despite her commitment to being a caretaker, she still finds time to advocate for the SEFA campaign.

UB employees contributed $850,112 to the 2018 campaign, exceeding the goal of $850,000. This is the 18th consecutive year the campaign has eclipsed $800,000 in contributions, which has led to its being consistently ranked as one of the five largest university giving campaigns in the nation.

For over 130 years, the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has continually been a leader in the education of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists, renowned for innovation in clinical practice and research. The school is accredited by the American Council of Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) and ranked as one of the top 25 schools of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences in the United States.
