The event was sponsored by Ardent Solutions, whose mission is to create synergy within and between systems, organizations, families and individuals that result in a strong culture of health and quality services for its communities.

The nearly 50 attendees from Allegany, Cattaragus and Steuben Counties were alumni of previous Matter of Balance events with interest in attending additional workshops. Over 280 senior citizens have graduated from the program since 2010.

Slazak worked with P2 students to offer bone density screenings and blood pressure readings. The P3 students worked alongside Wahler to complete Medication Therapy Management (MTM) Falls Risk Clinic assesments. Both SPPS faculty members spoke to the workshop participants about reducing fracture risk and preventing falls.

The SPPS MTM program provides individualized evaluation of a senior’s medications provided by PharmD students under the supervision of  faculty. This focused review utilizes medication falls risk tools developed by SPPS faculty and derived from medical literature investigating the links between medications and falls/fractures.
