Retrospective Drug Utilization Review

The Retrospective Drug Utilization Review (RetroDUR) team is comprised of clinical pharmacists from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (UB SPPS).

The program provides a service similar to medication therapy management (MTM) and retrospectively reviews outpatient prescription profiles in order to ensure that prescriptions are appropriate, medically necessary, and not likely to result in adverse medical outcomes.  The team uses the most current evidence-based medical information to make bias-free decisions. Prescribers and/or pharmacies are notified if any potential issues are identified.

In addition to retrospective reviews, the RetroDUR team from UB SPPS performs outcome analyses in collaboration with the data analyst team. These analyses, which have included targeted interventions to improve influenza vaccination rates in high-risk populations, evaluate the effectiveness of RetroDUR interventions.
