The goal of the New York State Medicaid prescriber education program (NYSMPEP) is to optimize the care of patients by providing the most current, bias-free, evidence-based, best practice information in pharmacotherapy.
NYSMPEP educators are clinical pharmacists from across New York State. The NYSMPEP program consists of two components. The first is an academic outreach component where educators meet with prescribers individually or in groups to present educational modules. The second is a web-based curriculum with programs available for prescribers to access at any time and from any place.
The program has developed educational modules focusing on treatment of chronic non-cancer pain management, diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and smoking cessation. Modules are regularly updated and new modules are frequently developed. Participants in these modules are eligible to receive continuing medical education credits.
