Graduate Application Process

IMPORTANT NOTE: Proceed to apply here ONLY if you are interested in a BS/MS, MS or PhD degree in the Pharmaceutical Sciences. These graduate degrees are oriented toward research. If you are interested in being a licensed pharmacist, you should apply for entry into the PharmD program.

Apply!

Applying online to the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences graduate program is easy. Just fill out the online application for the program to which you are applying and submit the supplemental materials below. Applications must be submitted online. We regret that paper application is no longer used.

  • Two letters of recommendation (to be completed online)
  • Official transcripts
  • Official GRE scores (UB's institution code is 2925, our department code is 0613)
  • Application fee of $50, payable to State University of New York, Buffalo (please write your name on the front of the check)

US citizens/Permanent residents: A fund has been established to pay the application fees for qualified applicants who are US citizens or permanent residents. To qualify for this application scholarship, applicants should contact mur...@buffalo.edu. Applicants who are NOT US citizens or permanent residents must pay the application fee.

Deadlines

We generally do not admit MS or PhD students to begin in the Spring semester, since new financial support is not generally available at that time, and many course sequences begin in the Fall semester. Admission and financial assistance (the latter to PhD students only) are awarded on a competitive basis to qualified applicants. Students must be first admitted by the Department before a faculty advisor is chosen. Thus, an applicant must seek admission from the Department, even though s/he may have preference regarding joining a particular laboratory.

Applicant Category Application Deadline
PhD applicants February 15th*
MS applicants February 15th*
BS/MS applicants (currently BS students at the University at Buffalo only) September 30th (for Spring entry)

*Applications that arrive after February 15th may be considered for admission in some cases. Please contact the Director of Graduate Studies, Dr. Murali Ramanathan (mur...@buffalo.edu) for additional information.
