Pharmacy Educational Activities
Pharmaceutical Care Learning Center (PCLC)
The PCLC is designed as a facility used to educate doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) students and pharmacy professionals in the provision of pharmaceutical care. Pharmaceutical Care is the integration of pharmacy knowledge, skills and attitudes in order to provide optimal patient care and therapeutic outcomes in the varied pharmacy environments ranging from community to institutional to long-term care and home health care. This state-of-the-art facility will provide students with the opportunity for on-hands learning in the advancing areas of novel and current prescription and drug distribution systems, patient records and documentation systems, patient assessment and patient assessment technologies, point of care assessment technologies, drug information systems and patient counseling methods and technology. The Pharmaceutical Care Learning Center will provide a structured learning environment to allow current and future pharmacy practitioners to develop and further enhance their professional skills in order to be able to provide optimized individualized patient care in a changing health care environment.

Poison Prevention Education Program
For many doctor of pharmacy students at UB, outreach is about education. Every year, around the time of National Poison Prevention Week, UB students visit area classrooms to teach children the importance of poison safety. To complement the outreach program, the school maintains a Web site for students and parents to look up important poison safety information. The Poison Prevention Education Program is a joint venture of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the WNY Poison Control Center.
Pharmacy Law
Pharmacy Law, a bimonthly newsletter from the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, covers pharmacy practice laws in New York State. Pharmacy Law was created in 1993 by the late Robert M. Cooper, PharmD, a long-time faculty member at the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and a member of the New York State Board of Pharmacy. It was his dream to bring current, concise, accurate information to practicing pharmacists.
Pharmacotherapy Information Center (PIC)
The Pharmacotherapy Information Center (PIC) was founded in 2003 as a physical location within the UB Health Sciences Library and has now expanded to include a web-based interface with community practitioners. A joint effort between the UB School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the School of Informatics and the Health Sciences Library, the PIC has been established as a mechanism for integrated education and research opportunities related to medication use.
Practitioners within the Health System Member Sites can now benefit from the expertise of Pharmacy Practice faculty and residents by submitting requests for medication-related information to the PIC. Training of students in the Doctor of Pharmacy program as well as post-doctoral pharmacy residents in the UB residency programs will be incorporated as they conduct informatics activities generated by requests to the PIC under the supervision of Pharmacy Practice faculty.
