Early Assurance: For High School Students & UB Freshmen

The doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) is a four-year professional program, following a minimum of two years of pre-pharmacy coursework. Students who enter UB directly from high school are eligible for our Early Assurance Program. All other applicants are considered for the program as a PharmCAS applicant.

Early Assurance Program Overview: The University at Buffalo (UB) offers incoming freshmen who enter UB directly from high school an opportunity to earn a PharmD degree through our prestigious Early Assurance (EA) Program. The PharmD program is an entry-level professional degree that enables one to work as a pharmacist, interacting with patients and other health care practitioners for matters involving treatment by medications. It is not an undergraduate degree (such as a BS or BA) nor is it a graduate academic degree (such as an MS, MBA, or PhD). Instead, it is a four-year graduate level professional program, similar to an MD, DDS, or JD degree.

  •  High School students applying as a freshman to UB must indicate pharmacy as their intended major either on their Freshman Application (or International Freshman Application). If you're accepted to UB as an undergraduate, pre-pharmacy student, you are automatically in our Early Assurance Program. You will be considered for the professional PharmD program in your sophomore or junior year depending on the completion of your courses.
  • Accepted UB Freshmen may change their major to pharmacy before the end of their first semester at UB. There is no additional paperwork to complete as a first semester freshman.
  • Early Assurance Sophomores are instructed to submit the Supplemental Admission Application and fee by November 1. After fall semester grades are posted, qualified candidates will be contacted by e-mail for an invitation to an interview in January. Conditional decisions are mailed shortly afterward.
