Student Organizations & Fraternities

There exists many professional organizations in our school representing many areas of the field. Most of these organizations are affiliated with a counterpart association on local, regional and national levels. We encourage our students to become involved in professional associations for several reasons:

  • Networking: Meeting other professionals and students in an association is a great way to collaborate on ideas, professional positions and projects
  • Issues: Interacting with health-care professionals to help both the profession and the community
  • Legislative: Working to educate our representatives on issues concerning the profession
  • Student development: Membership in one or two organizations is crucial to the professional development of the student and the transition to a fully educated professional.

If you would like to get involved, please research the professional PharmD Organizations or Pharmaceutical Sciences Organizations and contact the officers of each organization you are interested in.

Pre-pharmacy students and first professional-year (P1) students are represented by the Student Association (SA). SA funds over 180 clubs (such as the pre-pharmacy club), organizations, and services. Second, third, and fourth professional-year students are represented by the Pharmacy Student Association (PSA). Also, the Graduate Student Association (GSA) offers a variety of special interest clubs, including the Pharmaceutical Sciences Graduate Student Association.

Outreach

Being a recognized member of the pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences communities requires a dedication to people and communities. Through major outreach initiatives, the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is working to educate the public and bring together for discussion a diverse network of research and health professionals.

For many doctor of pharmacy students at UB, outreach is about education. Every year, during National Poison Prevention Week, UB students visit area elementary schools to teach children the importance of poison safety. To complement the outreach program, the school maintains a Web site for students and parents to look up important poison safety information. The Poison Prevention Education Program is a joint venture of the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the WNY Poison Control Center.

Professional Development

Through programs like our Career Pathways and Professional Practice Review Series (for PharmD students) and an engaging Seminar and Symposia series (for PharmSci students), you'll be ahead of industry trends as you enter the workforce. Visit our news and events page for an updated calendar of professional development events.
