Our Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is considered one of the top departments in pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and biopharmaceutics in the world! At UB, research is being carried on many fronts in drug delivery, protein formulation, drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacogenomics. These research studies are aimed at improving therapy for many diseases, such as cancer, transplantation rejection, multiple sclerosis, auto-immune diseases, and cardiovascular diseases. Pharmaceutical Sciences Graduate Program Admissions

PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences: Normally involves 4 years of additional training beyond the BS degree. Doctoral enrollees receive a full stipend (set at the NIH scale) with 100% tuition waiver! Additional amounts may be received through individual scholarships. A fund has been established to pay the application fees for qualified applicants who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

 

MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences: Normally involves 2 years of additional training beyond the BS degree. The department also offers a unique MS program with a focus on Pharmacometrics (how mathematical, statistical, and computer methods can be used to predict drug outcomes).

 

BS/MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences: Accelerated program that allows qualified students already enrolled for the BS degree in our program to complete a combined degree within a 5-year university curriculum.

Pharmaceutical Sciences Undergraduate Program Admissions

BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences: Provides basic training in the pharmaceutical sciences, and can be normally completed within a 4-year university curriculum.

 

Minor in Pharmaceutical Sciences: Provides a unique interdisciplinary education emphasizing the principles of basic science relevant to the pharmaceutical sciences discipline.

Admissions Selection

Admission is awarded on a competitive basis to qualified applicants. Selection is based on scholastic achievement, aptitude, personal qualifications, and evidence of motivation toward pharmaceutical sciences. These are judged from the college record and grade point average. For the graduate programs, the GRE, letters of reference, communication skills, leadership ability, research experience, and motivation for pursuing a career in pharmaceutical sciences are also considered.

 

UB does not have a policy that limits or favors current UB students, transfer or out-of-state applicants. All applicants are considered equally. Important Dates for Pharmaceutical Sciences Applicants

  • September 1st - BS application opens
  • September 30th - Application deadline for fall entry to the BS/MS program (fall semester of the student’s senior year)
  • February 15th - MS and PhD application deadline. Applications that arrive after the deadline may be considered for admission in some cases. PhD and MS program is for fall admission only.
  • March 15th - BS application deadline. Applications received after March 15 will be considered for fall admission only if spaces are still available.
  • April - Decision letters sent to BS applicants
