Kapoor August Construction
Exterior glass wall construction
John and Editha Kapoor Hall Update
Beautiful weather this summer has resulted in great progress in construction over the past few months. Foundation and infrastructure systems have been implemented and construction of classrooms, offices and research spaces has begun. The exterior reflective-glass wall will be completed by November, allowing interior work to continue throughout 2011. The school is still targeting occupancy of Kapoor Hall for the spring/summer of 2012, with classes beginning in our new home in August 2012.

Welcome Picnic and Softball Game
The annual faculty-student softball game, held during our welcome picnic, was another hard-fought battle. The reigning faculty champs had a tough time finding team members this year, but still gave the students a good fight. After three extra innings, the game ended in an 11-11 tie.

We would like to thank Wegmans for sponsoring the welcome picnic, as well as all our faculty grillers and staff attendees.

Fred Bennes, Clinical Professor of Pharmacy, May 4, 1950-Aug. 4, 2010
The UB School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our longtime colleague and friend last month after a sudden illness. Professor Bennes recently retired after more than 30 years of service and will be remembered for his love and commitment to teaching, as well as his mentorship of hundreds of students, faculty and staff.

He will be missed by all who knew him.

Bruce Moden, '57, Gives Funding for Kapoor Hall Patient Assessment Room
Bruce Moden, BS '57, and his wife, Barbara, have given $50,000 to the UB School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences to name a patient assessment and counseling room in Kapoor Hall.

Bruce, the former owner of five pharmacies in Western New York, has spent his five-decades-plus career as a consummate community pharmacist. He is well known at the university, having served UB as president and treasurer of the pharmacy school's alumni association and as chair of the school's Campaign for UB: Generation to Generation committee.

He also is known as an activist in his profession who served as president of the local pharmaceutical association and state pharmaceutical society. For 10 years, he was the New York State community representative to the meetings of the United States Pharmacopeia (USP), a nongovernmental, official, public-standards-setting authority for prescription and over-the-counter medicines and other health care products manufactured or sold in the United States.
