Javier Blanco, Clin. Biochem., PhD, was promoted to Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences on July 1, 2017.

Blanco, who joined the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences faculty in Jan. 2003, is a researcher specializing in the improvement of cancer chemotherapy by understanding the factors that contribute to inter-individual variability in anti-cancer drug response.

He is the recipient of numerous National Institute of Health (NIH) grants, including Contribution of CBRs and AKRs to the Pharmacodynamics of Anthracycline Drugs, National Institute of General Medical Sciences, and Epigenetic Regulation of FcRn Expression in Human Lung and its Role in the Disposition of Monoclonal Antibody Drugs, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. He has participated in research projects funded by prominent private sponsors including the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Mae Stone Goode Trust, and the American Kennel Club.   

Blanco has served as grant reviewer for the National Institutes of Health, the Leukemia and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and as a peer reviewer in numerous specialty journals. He is a member of many professional societies and organizations including the Children’s Oncology Group, the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, the Clinical Pharmacogenetics Implementation Consortium, and the American Society of Clinical Pharmacology.

His teaching service includes course coordination and lecturing in many pharmaceutical science courses, as well as doctor of pharmacy courses.  He has mentored post-doctoral fellows, undergraduate, graduate, and professional students and participates in several school and university-wide committees.
