In recent years, branding in higher education has become critical to engaging audiences, shifting perceptions and communicating a university’s mission to the world. UB has the power to educate and inspire, and so does our story.
With this in mind, the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has created this instructional brand application page to assist faculty, staff and students with the implementation and application of UB's new brand strategy.
The sections below begin with general university information and
then focus to SPPS information and application.
A single, unified identity and language will help propel our
university and school forward. And with a common nomenclature and
hierarchy, we can deliver the brand clearly and compellingly.
Therefore past references to the university as SUNY Buffalo,
University of Buffalo, etc. can no longer be used. In support
of our unified brand initiative, the university should be referred
to as the University at Buffalo, using the official name

The university's primary mark represents the strength and power of our academics. This is the university’s logo and most recognizable mark. It must be presented in its original format, never altered or manipulated, in all communications.
The university as a whole can be represented using these two
powerful master brand lockups: the University Lockup and the
University Lockup with SUNY Modifier.

The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences directly supports and furthers the university's mission. Our school is highly visible and must always be tied directly to the UB master brand lockup, to reinforce and elevate the strength of the brand. Therefore, the SPPS lockup below is the ONLY brand imagery to be used for print and digital needs. Use of any past logos, graphics, lockups is no longer permitted. This includes the use of the prior SPPS circle logo.

The following lockup/logo includes our registered trademark symbol and is therefore the ONLY LOGO to be used on merchandising items. Use of any past logos, graphics, lockups is no longer permitted—this includes the use of the prior SPPS circle logo.
This new lockup/logo is the only graphic design element to be used for ALL fundraising, apparel and other merchandise needs. The SPPS and all other unit lockups may not be altered in any way in the production of your merchandise needs.
UB has given thoughtful review to the university’s color
palette to further strengthen our messaging platform to create
uniformity and distinctiveness. These color options are the ONLY
colors SPPS messaging, marketing and outreach materials may
use. The percent of colors used and the application of these
colors cannot be altered.
Primary Palette: Blue and White
UB’s signature blue and white dates back to 1886, 40 years after the School of Medicine was established. At the time, the School of Medicine was tying its diplomas using white ribbons. As the School of Pharmacy prepared to graduate its first class, it looked to distinguish itself and used blue ribbons instead. As other departments came into existence and the student body increased, there came a need to create a university spirit insignia. The diploma ribbons were seized on as a distinctive color combination that didn’t conflict with those of other universities. Our blue and white have undergone many iterations over the last 130-plus years, but they endure to this day, representing the University at Buffalo at the highest level.

Secondary Palette: Supporting Colors
Although our color system is monochromatic, we understand that, in certain instances, other colors need to be used. For those circumstances, we have developed this set of secondary colors.
These colors should be used occasionally and sparingly. Under no circumstances should any of them become the predominant color for a school, center, institute or department. Again, percents of color and application of colors cannot be altered.
The following fonts are the only ones to be used in all SPPS communications, including emails, letters, brochures, flyers, as well as any other types of print or digital/electronic media:
