UB pharmacy and management faculty collaborate on journal articles highlighting benefits of dual degree

Faculty and staff from the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and School of Management worked collaboratively on the completion of two recent articles for the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education (AJPE).

The articles, entitled Attitudes and Perceptions of Dual PharmD/MBA Program Students and Career Progression of the Pharmacy/MBA Professional: Characterizations and Perceptions of the Combined Degree discuss the benefits of obtaining the dual degree, noting enhanced career opportunities, increased job satisfaction and higher salary levels.

“These studies highlight the long rich history of collaboration between the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the School of Management,” said lead authors Christopher Daly, PharmD, MBA, and David Jacobs, PharmD, clinical assistant professors, pharmacy practice. “Current professional candidates identified employment opportunities following graduation and career advancement as the most influential determinants in pursuing a dual PharmD/MBA degree. As PharmD/MBA graduates progress through their careers, we see them working in a wide-range of professional settings and enjoying a high level of satisfaction with their job and combined degree.”

Additional author Erin O’Brien, assistant dean and director of graduate programs, School of Management, also reinforces the enhanced value of the PharmD/MBA degrees, stating “Adding a UB MBA degree to a PharmD provides our students an additional skillset that prepares them to be leaders in the business of pharmacy.”

Both articles appear in the May 2017 edition of the AJPE.
