Nguyen receives Bruce Holm Memorial Catalyst Fund award

Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences Juliane Nguyen, PharmD, PhD, has received a Bruce Holm Memorial Catalyst Fund award for $33,000 in support of her project titled “EXO-Codes: A highly Efficient Platform for Loading Exosomes with Chemical and Biological Agents.”
Exosomes—nano-sized lipid vesicles secreted by cells—have tremendous potential within biomedicine as drug carriers, therapeutic agents, whole-cell therapy replacements, and biomarkers, and as active agents in consumer care products such as cosmetics. Because of their wide-therapeutic utility in both diagnostics and therapeutics, there are considered the next breakthrough in the biotechnology sector.
Nguyen is also principal investigator on a $1.58M NIH RO1 grant for the development of exosome “zip-coding.”
The Bruce Holm Memorial Catalyst Fund, established in 2012 and based in the University at Buffalo’s Office of Science Technology and Transfer, supports commercializing inventions and discoveries of University at Buffalo faculty and students.
