Two faculty members in the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences have been recognized for excellence by the State University of New York.

The Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence are presented annually to faculty and staff to provide system-wide recognition for consistently superior professional achievement and encourages the ongoing pursuit of excellence.

2017 State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching

Prescott.

William Prescott, '02, department vice-chair and clinical associate professor, pharmacy practice, is the recipient of the 2017 State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. He is being recognized for his innovative teaching techniques incorporating various educational technology applications such as Flipped Classrooms and other Blended Learning Environments. 

Prescott instituted the school's Scholars Program, which is designed to identify academically excellent students who have interest in post-graduate residency training. He has also advanced application of objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs) into the curriculum. He served as residency program director from 2007–2012.

Prescott has been the recipient of the 2011 UB SPPS American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Teacher of the Year Award, the 2013 American College of Apothecaries Albert R. Rosica, Jr. Memorial Award, and the 2015 University at Buffalo Teaching Innovation Award.

2017 Chancellor’s Award in Scholarship and Creative Activity

Donald Mager, '91, '00 & '02, professor, pharmaceutical sciences, is the recipient of the 2017 State University of New York Chancellor's Award in Scholarship and Creative Activity. He is being recognized for his outstanding research efforts in the areas pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PK/PD), pharmacometrics, and systems pharmacology, with special interest in the PK/PD of anti-cancer agents. 

Mager is a member of various National Institute of Health (NIH) committees, and is an advisory board member of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) and the International Society of Pharmacometrics, among others. He has authored many seminal publications and has received numerous awards, including the 2006 UB Young Investigator Award, the 2007 AAPS New Investigator Award, and the 2017 ASCPT Malle Jurima-Romet Mid-Career Award in recognition of exceptional leadership and outstanding contributions in clinical pharmacology.

The Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence are presented annually to faculty and staff in seven categories: Faculty Service, Librarianship, Professional Service, Scholarship and Creative Activities, Teaching, Adjunct in Teaching, and Classified Service. The honor provides system-wide recognition for consistently superior professional achievement and encourages the ongoing pursuit of excellence.
