Meet Our 2016-17 Residents

Nick Ladziak, Chief Resident

PGY2 Ambulatory Care Buffalo Medical Group

Dr. Ladziak earned his PharmD Degree from the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in May 2015. He completed his PGY1 pharmacy residency at Florida Hospital Celebration Health and is now the PGY2 ambulatory care pharmacy resident at Buffalo Medical Group and the University at Buffalo. His professional interests include ambulatory care, both preventive medicine and chronic disease state management, as well as academia and pharmacy informatics. After completion of his postgraduate training, he plans to pursue a career as a clinical pharmacist in an ambulatory care setting, continue to serve as a preceptor for pharmacy students and achieve board certification as an Ambulatory Care Pharmacy specialist. Dr. Ladziak enjoys living a healthy lifestyle through regular physical activity and healthy eating. He also spends his free time watching movies or with personal development books and podcasts.

Stephanie Brennan

PGY1 Pharmacy Erie County Medical Center

Dr. Brennan was born and raised in North Tonawanda, NY, and recently received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She is currently completing her PGY 1 pharmacy residency at Erie County Medical Center, with a strong interest in oncology. She hopes to pursue a PGY-2 oncology residency upon completion of her current residency. Other professional interests include geriatric populations, specialty pharmacy, and teaching and precepting. In her free time, Dr. Brennan enjoys horseback riding, skiing, watching sports, and reading.

Michael Burns

PGY1 Community Pharmacy Middleport Family Health Center

Dr. Burns earned his Doctor of Pharmacy and Master of Public Health degrees concurrently through the combined degree program at the University at Buffalo’s School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and School of Public Health and Health Professions.  While at UB, he was actively involved in the American Pharmacists Association - Academy of Student Pharmacists, where he served as Vice Chair and later Co-Chair for the school’s chapter of Operation Diabetes. His Master’s Integrative Project entitled: Assessing the Impact of Ambulatory Care Pharmacists on Medicare Star Ratings in a Level 3 Patient-Centered Medical Home, was conducted with mentorship by Dr. Erin Slazak, PharmD, BCPS of Lifetime Health Medical Group and UB SPPS.  Dr. Burns has 6 years of community pharmacy experience and a passion for chronic disease state management and program planning/evaluation.  In his spare time, he enjoys nearly all outdoor recreation including soccer, tennis and kayaking.

Anthony Chiappelli

PGY1 Pharmacy Lifetime Health Medical Group

Dr. Chiappelli was born and raised in Saint Mary’s, PA – a small town between Buffalo and Pittsburgh.  He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy.  He is currently completing his PGY1 pharmacy residency at Lifetime Health Medical Group.  Dr. Chiappelli has several years of experience in community pharmacy practice with a strong interest in ambulatory care.  He hopes to pursue a career in ambulatory care near his hometown of Saint Mary’s, the home of Straub Beer!  He enjoys playing golf in the summer and spending quality time with friends.  His time in Pittsburgh, for better or worse, has made him an avid Pittsburgh sports fan including the Steelers, Pirates, and lastly, the Penguins.  

Emily Leppien

PGY1 Pharmacy Buffalo Psychiatric Center

Dr. Leppien recently received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She is the current PGY 1 Pharmacy Practice Resident at the Buffalo Psychiatric Center. Dr. Leppien anticipates further developing her clinical skillsets to become a more highly trained, competent and confident clinician. Her professional interests include clinical psychopharmacology, inpatient psychiatry, substance abuse and pharmacy education. Upon completion of her residency, Dr. Leppien plans to pursue a position as a PGY-2 Psychiatric Pharmacy Resident and obtain certification as a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS). Dr. Leppien enjoys traveling and vacationing throughout the Caribbean with her family, having visited over eight countries and a dozen islands.

Patrick McCabe

PGY1 Community Pharmacy Middleport Family Health Center

Dr. McCabe was born and raised in Rochester, NY. He received his undergraduate Bachelors of Science in Biology from St. John Fisher College. He went on to complete a dual Doctor of Pharmacy/Master of Business Administration degree program at St. John Fisher’s Wegmans School of Pharmacy. He is currently a PGY1 resident in the UB/Middleport Family Health Center community residency program. Dr. McCabe is very interested in expanding the role of ambulatory care pharmacy in the community setting and in entrepreneurship. His hobbies include reading historical fiction and genealogy research. In his free time, Dr. McCabe loves to travel and spend time with his wife and 6-year-old daughter.

Saloni Patel

PGY1 Pharmacy Erie County Medical Center

Dr. Patel was born in India and moved to Toronto, Canada at the age of 10. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacology & Toxicology and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University at Buffalo. Her professional interests include infectious diseases, internal medicine, and cardiology. Following her PGY1 Pharmacy Residency, Dr. Patel hopes to continue her training with a second year specialty residency and ultimately practice at an academic medical center with both clinical and teaching responsibilities. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, doing yoga, playing music, and curling. Dr. Patel is extremely grateful to her friends, family, and mentors for their continuous support, guidance, and inspiration.

Taylor Sanderson

PGY1 Managed Care Pharmacy BlueCross BlueShield of WNY

Dr. Sanderson was born and raised in Buffalo, NY.  She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from D’Youville College School of Pharmacy in 2016 after completing the Early Assurance Program.  She is currently a PGY1 managed care pharmacy resident and is excited to build upon what she learned at BlueCross BlueShield as an APPE student.  After completion of her residency, Dr. Sanderson plans to pursue a career in managed care.  In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, watching movies, baking and spending time with family and friends.
