PharmD/MBA Curriculum

Students complete the first professional year in the PharmD curriculum. The second year involves only courses in the MBA program. Coursework in both programs are taken in years three and four, followed by a fifth experiential year in both programs. Each candidate must meet all degree requirements of each school, except for the reduction in total credit hours.

First Professional Year

  • MGA 603 Financial Accounting for Managers (2 credits - first 7 weeks) 
  • MGB 610 Organizational Behavior (2 credits - 14 weeks)
  • MGB 611 Team Skills (1 credit - 14 weeks)
  • MGF 611 Financial Analysis for Managers (2 credits - second 7 weeks)
  • MGG 601 Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability (1.5 credits - second 7 weeks)
  • MGG 635 Management Communications (1.5 credits - first 7 weeks)
  • MGM 615  Marketing for Managers (2 credits - second 7 weeks)
  • MGQ 608 Statistical Analysis for Managers (2 credits - 14 weeks)
  • MGQ 609 Analytics for Managers (1 credit - 14 weeks)

Spring

  • MGA 605 Accounting for Management Decision Making (2 credits - second 7 weeks)
  • MGE 604 Business Economics (2 credits - first 7 weeks)
  • MGO 620 Operations Management (2 credits - first 7 weeks)
  • MGO 640 Business Strategy (2 credits - 14 weeks)

Third Professional Year

Fall

  • Follow School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences curriculum (17 credits)
  • MGO 642 Integration of Business Functions (1 credit - 14 weeks)
  • MGO 644 Business Practice (1 credit - 14 weeks)

Fourth Professional Year

Fall

  • Follow School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences curriculum (16 credits)
  • MGX XXX MBA Elective (6 credits)*

Spring

  • Follow School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences curriculum (13 credits)
  • MGX XXX MBA Elective (6 credits)

Fifth Professional Year

Fall and Spring

  • Six Experiential Rotations
  • Each rotation is for six weeks; six hours each

TUITION

Tuition is billed according to the school in which the student is taking the majority of credits for each semester. Visit UB Student accounts office for tuition and fees.

ROTATION/INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENT

A PharmD/MBA student must fulfill 6 APPE rotations for the PharmD program and 48 credits in the MBA program including a 3 hour MBA internship. To fulfill the curricular requirements of both schools the student must complete the following:
 
Take one of the PharmD APPE electives (6 hours) to fulfill the MBA internship requirement (3 hours). To fulfill both requirements the student must pick a rotation that serves both purposes (e.g., HMO, Hospital administration etc). The student must inform the appropriate staff in the Pharmacy department and their MBA Advisor in the School of Management. It should be noted that the student must complete a 3 hour MBA elective course to fulfill the 48 credit hour requirement under this option.

OR

*Take a 3 hour MBA internship. Student is required to pay the appropriate MBA tuition if this is a summer internship. Students still must fulfill 6 APPE rotations for PharmD completion.

Automatic Course Waivers

Students are waived from the following required PharmD courses:

  • PHM 637 Contemporary Pharmacy Management and Practice
  • SPPS Electives
