"Experiential Education Perspectives on Substance Abuse Issues Involving Pharmacy Students in New York State"
Presented by Dr. Christopher Jadoch

This is a free two-hour, knowledge-based continuing education program. Christopher Jadoch, RPh, J.D., assistant dean of faculty and student affairs for the School of Pharmacy at D'Youville, will discuss recognizing and addressing substance abuse issues in pharmacy students in New York State, including challenges, costs, and laws pertaining thereto. This event is supported as a preceptor development opportunity through the New York's Empire Experiential Education Consortium.

  1. Identify current best practices for screening pharmacy students in the United States for drugs;
  2. Describe the existence of drug screening programs in Pharmacy Schools in the United States, as compared to New York State;
  3. Analyze current laws, regulations and guidelines in the United States and New York State that impact the ability of Pharmacy Schools to implement student drug screening programs and to intervene with students known or identified as having substance abuse issues;
  4. Identify potential challenges, issues and costs associated with the pharmacy student drug screening process in New York State; and,
  5. Outline potential actions that Pharmacy Schools can take in dealing with students known or identified as having substance abuse issues.
